The birth of Golden Voice Foundation Africa idea was based on a true story and experiences of the founder EJ Nuwasasira (Nuwasasira Emmanuel). “Having been brought up by a single father in a family of seven with six sisters made me become a man before becoming a boy, and given the huddles, my father and I had to jump for us to survive, was such a humbling experience that taught me that sorrows sadden one’s face but sharpen one’s understanding” Emmanuel said. This opened his mind to realize that just like women and girls, boys and men also have a number of vulnerabilities and challenges but they do not have any platform to address them because society programmed us that men showing emotions is a sign of weakness which is one of the reasons why we have a big number of men and boys opting to self sabotaging behaviors like use of drugs i.e. alcohol, cocaine and other different types that are harmful to their brain and other body organs because of stress, undisclosed trauma and domestic violence from their homes. There is a problem of African toxic nature of masculinity where by society has put it in a way that males are meant to figure everything out on their own so people believe they do not need much protection and guidance which has made our generation full of more immoral, criminal and violent males. No one wants to know that about 75% of the suicides are men, about 84 men take their lives a week, men are less likely to get help, most criminals are men and the largest number of people in remand centers are men and these are some of the grounds that triggered the birth of this idea.
